About Dept. of Emergency Medicine
Since its establishment in 1993, the Department of Emergency Medicine has been faithfully fulfilling its role in the areas of medical treatment, education, and research, while providing frontline healthcare services. Since its designation as the regional emergency medical center in the Gwangju area in 2001, it has operated an emergency room with 40 beds, an emergency intensive care unit with 20 beds, and an emergency ward with 30 beds. The department has been relentlessly striving to provide effective and holistic treatment that is oriented toward patients, in addition to fulfilling its role as the emergency care center that receives emergency patients from across the province.
Treating an average of 48,000 emergency patients annually, the department ranks among the top hospitals in the country when it comes to treating patients for cardiac arrest and poisoning.
